Description This piece was minted during the reign of Antoninus Pius, who ruled from 138-161 AD. The reign of Antoninus is a virtual blank in the history books, owing to the stability and prosperity that Rome enjoyed during these years. He was the personification of Rome's golden age, which reached its zenith under his rule. The obverse of this piece depicts the laureate head of Antoninus facing right, with legends ANTONINVS.AVG.PIVS.P.P.TR.P.COS.III. The reverse features Aequitas standing front, head left, holding scales and sceptre. The legends read AEQVITAS.AVG. Coin shows some hairlines, and is a bit off center on the reverse, but otherwise grades VF, with bold devices and all legends visible, despite a little peripheral striking weakness. A nice example of the type, catalouged as RSC-14. Buyer pays postage/insurance, coin shipped on clearance of funds. PA residents please add appropriate sales tax. MC/Visa accepted for orders of $20 or more. For more ancients, please visit our WWW site at http://www.philly.infi.net/~mdgeary/ .
