Price $450. This coin was produced at a military mint in southern Gaul. The current thinking is that this was in Colonia Agrippinensium (Cologne) in lower Germany, between the autumn of 68 AD, after the accession of Galba, and April 69, when Vitellius, now backed by the armies of the German provinces, began his movement against Otho. The legend "FIDES PRAETORIANORVM" is thought to represent Vitellius seeking the support of the Praetorians against Galba. Image by permission of ancientcoinart.com, March, 2002.
