DEW MARINW, bare-headed bust right, slight drapery on left shoulder, supported by eagle standing right / FILIPPOPOLIT-WN KOLWNIAC, Roma standing left, holding phiale in extended right hand, spear in left; shield at feet; S C across field. Spijkerman 1/2 (obv./rev.); Hendin 897a var. (Roma seated left); SNG ANS 1402. VF, black-green patina with some lighter green overtones. Attractive, well-centered strike. Rare dynastic issue. 


Though the dates of both events are uncertain, at some point during his reign Philip I deified his deceased father and built a temple to him. The boyhood hometown of Philip I was renamed Philippopolis in the emperor.s honor (its original name is lost to history).
