Hadrian is famed as the emperor who built Hadrian's Wall, the massive fortification erected across the northernmost British frontier of the empire to defend against marauding Scots and Picts. He is also known for his extensive travels throughout the empire. The obverse of this type depicts the laureate bust of Hadrian facing right, cuirassed, with drapery on far shoulder. The legends read IMP.CAES.TRAIAN.HADRIAN.OPT.AVG.GER.DAC. The reverse features Concord seated left on throne with cornucopiae below, resting left arm on a small statuette of Spes and holding out patera with right arm. The legend CONCORD appears in the exergue, with PARTHIC.DIVI.TRAIAN.AVG.F.P.M.TR.P.COS.P.P. around. Coin is struck on a slightly smallish flan, but otherwise grades VF, with clear devices and legends where struck up, and an attractive portrait of Hadrian. A pleasing example of this scarcer first year type, catalouged as RSC-250a. All coins guaranteed genuine without limitations. Buyer pays postage/insurance, coin shipped on clearance of funds.
