Description Publius Lucius Septimius Geta was son of Septimius Severus and Julia Domna. He was made Caesar with civilian authorty during his father's campaigns in Britain from A.D. 208-211. He and his brother Caracalla were notorious rivals, and refused to cooperate. He was killed by Caracalla at their mother's residence in December 211. After this attentate Caracalla had a lot of Geta's supporters kiled; some sources say 20.000 people were killed the week after Geta's death. Caracalla ordered Geta's portraits and statues to be removed, and the coinage to be melted down. Because of this, Geta's coins are scarcer than Caracalla's, but enough samples have survived to give us an impression of this young emperor. This coin was struck while he had the tiltle Caesar, in the period A.D. 198 to 211.
