                                  legend CONSTANTINOPOLIS

      Rev:                        Victory standing on prow of galley, holding
                                  scepter and leaning on shield, mintmark PLG
      REFERENCE:                  SR 3890 var.
      GRADING:                    VF, dark patina with highlights
      ORDER INFO:                 E1008, Ebay auction
      Popular issue commemorating the founding of Constantinople as the new
      capital of the Empire, with the image of the city's personification -
      Constantinopolis. For more than a millenium it shined not only as the
      capital of the Eastern Roman (Byzantine) Empire, but as the preeminent
      world capital, and retained a dose of importance even after the 15th-c.
      Ottoman conquest.

     returned for any reason (but undamaged) up to 10 days after receipt.
     Payment is accepted by personal check or money order (in US$ and drawn on
     a US bank), made out to "Rudnik Numismatics" (sorry, no credit cards for
     now). Personal checks from unknown parties must clear. California
     residents will be invoiced 7.25% sales tax. Shipping and handling: orders
     for U.S. and Canada are sent via registered or insured mail, and charged
     $3; foreign orders (except Canada) will be shipped registered mail, at
     buyer's risk (due to inadequate international insurance), and charged $7.
