Description LUGDUNUM was a mint in Gaul that ten years prior minted coin for the breakaway Gallic Empire founded by Postumus in 260 and abdicated by Tetricus to Aurelian in 273 AD. For portrait work on Antoninianii, this mint did the top work IMHO. A strange twist is the portrait on this one looks like Frank Thring, the actor who played Pontus Pilate in the film BEN HUR (1959). So I call this coin FRANK and it meant more than just French. :^) RIC 212 Lugdunum as Augustus. Nearly fully silvered, darkly toned, detailed and delicately rendered, add FRANK to any collection needing a great looking Carinus. Or an example of the workmanship from the Lugdunum mint in the third century AD. Personal Check or Money order only. Check must clear before coin is shipped. Add one dollar for uninsured and $2.50 for insured shipping. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ [Image] [Image] [counter 1] Free Honesty Counters powered by Andale!
