                                Description

            CARAUSIUS. 286-293AD, Camulodunum, Antoninianus. EF

               OBV: PA-X - AVG Radiate cuirassed bust right;

       REV: S-C Pax standing left, holding olive-branch and sceptre.

      VERY RARE! Dark brown patina. Artistic high relief portrait with
                        all detailes. RIC 504, 475.

      CARAUSIUSMarcus Aurelius Mausaeus Carausius. Usurper in Britain
        (287-293). Was in command of the fleet in northrn Gaul, but,
       taking advantage of his position, he turned to indiscriminate
       plunder and fell into disfavor. Fled to Britain adn proclaimed
     himself emperor. He was defeated by the fleet of Maximian and was
       slain by his chief minister Allectus. He was probably 48 years
                             old at his death.
