Description Barry & Darling Ancient Coins http://www.bitsofhistory.com [Image] Rare Roman Civil War Denarius - Galba Attribution: RSC 405, minted by Galba 3/68 - 5/68, weight 2.87 gr. Obverse : Helmeted bust of a bearded Mars right. 'MARS VLTOR' Reverse : Roman eagle between two standards. Altar between eagle and standard on right. Grade : aVG/aVG Notes : This coin was minted in the period following the death of Nero. A time when powerful men were fighting for the control of the empire. It was minted by future emperor Galba, probably in at provincial mint at Vienna. One point of interest is the precise dating on the time of issue, between March 68 and May 68. The coin is worn, pitted and not in great shape. However the obverse and reverse portrait and design are easily visible. The inscription is also partially visible on the obverse. The coin does appear a little better than the image indicates. Coins of this era do not appear at auction very often and this is your chance to pick up a decent example for a good price. GOOD LUCK!
