Chris Howgego just calls it a monogram. Chalkis countermarks are quite common, and generally show the next ruler. Coins of Ptolemy are countermarked with a female head right, presumably Cleopatra. Lysanius bronzes have an odd countermark, perhaps for Zenodorus. Those of Zenodorus have one of three variations of the countermark, one of which Lindren calls Varus. Varus, as proconsular governor of Syria, was the next authority over Chalkis. We have one example of Ptolemy, countermarked with the female head right, presumably Cleopatra, and countermarked over Cleopatra with a monogram which we read as VAR."
