Octavian. denarius. (C61) Battle of
Naulochus. Octavian/Mercury. silver.
Grade:VF
'43-27 B.C.: Obv.: Bare head of
Octavian/Rev.: Mercury sits on rock with
shield slung across his back while playing a
lyre. A strong strike with lots of detail.
This coin celebrates the Battle of Naulochus
which re-opened sea trade with Italy.
Mercury is the patron of commerce. [L534373]
