  This coin type was part of Octavian's pre-Actium coinage that was issued in response
  to Antony's legionary series. The present type emphasizes Octavian's legitimacy as
  Caesar's heir, through divine power (Venus is the guardian deity of Caesar and the
  Julia gens) and military prowess (the reverse depiction of Octavian as a military
  leader in Caesar's vein).
