[Homebutton][archives header] Julius Caesar This coin comes from a massive issue which was struck to pay for Caesar's projected Parthian War. The coins are often struck carelessly and are normally encountered with peripheral weakness, evidence of the mint's haste to complete its task. The veil which Caesar wears on this coin signifies his office of pontifex maximus, an honor and duty which he had held for the previous two decades. Julius Caesar. 44 BC. AR Denarius (3.85 gm). P.
