Julius Caesar with moneyer C.Cossutius Maridianus, AR-Denarius, Rome, 44 BC Obverse: CAES[AR DICT]IN PERPETVO, Veiled head of Caesar wearing wreath right Reverse: C MARIDIA]NVS, Venus holding Victory to the left, resting on shield on globe Crawford 480/15 According to Crawford, this type was struck between shortly before 15th February and the death of Caesar on 15th of March 44 BC. Because of the short duration, the issue is rather scarce, with only 5 obverse dies counted by Crawford. The present coin bearing the offending title of "dictator perpetuo = dictator for lifetime" therefore belongs to the last turbulent weeks of Caesarīs life and is - despite its bad conservation - of considerable historical interest.
