Description ***Please be sure to follow the hyperlinks below to CNG's new postage rates for all online sales*** [Image] Julius Caesar. Circa 46-45 BC. AR Denarius (3.85 gm). Head of Venus Genetrix right; Cupid behind / Gallia and Gaulish captive (Vercingetorix?) beneath trophy. Crawford 468/1; Sydenham 1014; RSC 13. Attractively toned, nice VF. 712806. This dramatic coin, struck by Caesar during his Civil War against the Senatorial forces, touts Caesar's stupendous victories in Gaul over the previous 10 years. The figure to the right beneath the trophy, with the typically wild hair of a Gallic warrior, may represent the chieftain Vercingetorix, who led an armed uprising in Gaul which Caesar suppressed with great difficulty. Vercingetorix remained in captivity in Rome until Caesar's great Triumph in 46 BC, in which the brave Gaul was marched through the streets in golden chains behind Caesar's chariot, then ceremonially strangled. Authenticity unconditionally guaranteed - 14 day return privilege for any reason. CNG accepts for payment: check, money order or credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express). The manner of payment accepted is subject to our qualification of the bidder. CNG's Domestic, Canadian, and International postage rates. Pennsylvania residents please add appropriate sales tax.
