Reverse : Aeneas advancing left, holding palladium and carrying Anchises on left shoulder. 'CAESAR' on right. Grade : gF/gF Notes : An interesting example of an ancient counterfeit denarius of Julius Caesar. The coin is a plated type, which means it was made by taking a bronze core and wrapping it with a thin sheet of silver before striking. In this case the original plating is at least 90% intact, except for wear on the high points. This coin is a good example of the counterfeiters art and is pretty faithful to the original design made by Caesar. It would make a wonderful addition to a collection of early Roman coinage.
