Description Barry & Darling Ancient Coins http://www.ancient-times.com [Image] Superb Lysimachus Gold Stater Attribution: Sear 6873 variant SNG Copenhagen Thrace 1089, minted at Callatis 89 - 72 BC Weight 8.26 gr. Obverse : Standard references say that the portrait is the deified head of Alexander. SNG states that it may be the head of Mithradites VI. Reverse : Athena Nikephoros seated left, leaning on shield and holding Nike, monogram before, 'KAh' on throne, trident with dolphins below throne. 'BASILEWS/LUSIMACOU' before and after Athena. Grade : EF/EF Notes : This is not part of the hoard that was released by CNG back in September of 99. It was purchased, privately, before the flood of CNG coins. Many of those coins were crudely executed with worn or rusty dies. This coin is nearly mint state with a sharp strike and fresh dies, particularly on the reverse. It has pleny of detail, nice portrait and almost complete reverse inscription. The reverse is just slightly off-center which clips a small part of the inscription. GOOD LUCK!
