350. THRACE, Abdera. Circa 540/35-520/15 BC. AR Drachm (3.63 gm). Griffin seated left, raising paw / Quadripartite incuse square. Cf. May 20. Toned, good VF, some light reverse porosity. Only two specimens recorded by May! ($750) This coin appears to be of finer style and detail than that described as May 20 (which is not illustrated), however the style matches other coins of May’s Period I more closely than those of Period II. Also, the rough and irregular incuse square would indicate the earlier period. CNG Mail bid sale #58, 18 Sept 2001, lot 350. Lot was unsold. Used by permission of CNG, www.historicalcoins.com
