Peparethos, modern day Skopelos, is a Greek island in the western Aegean Sea. It is said to have been founded by Staphylus ("grape"), one of the sons of Dionysos. In the late Bronze Age the island was colonised by Cretans who began cultivating vinyards and wine from the island soon became famous.
