    Syracuse, Sicily, Æ17 litra, (4.82g) c. 405 BC, signed by
    Euainetos, Head of Arethusa left, hair bound with wreath of
    corn-leaves, wearing triple-drop earring, star on back of sakkos,
    E[Y?] behind. / Star of eight rays inside incuse circle at center
    of quadripartite incuse square. SNG ANS 394var. VF, rough green
[ ] patina.                                                             [ ]

    The master engravers who signed their gold and silver works, also
    produced dies for fractions and bronze. See the Celator, 7/1996 for
    an article about signed bronzes by Emilio Favorito. Favorito notes
    that, "Calciati does report single specimens purportedly signed
    "EY", "Y(A?)", and "I" in the right field behind the neck." This
    example confirms the first. Favorito continues, "If confirmed, the
    presence of the second letter in the "EY" signature could be
    relevant to the identity of the "EY artist on the "Wheel" coinage,
    discussed below." Several sources suggest Eukleidas though Favorito
    believes, (as do I) that Euanetos has a more similar style. The
    star on the back of the sakkos is another connection to the style
    of Euanetos.
