SELEUCID Seleucus I CSE 928 Plate coin $331.00 Oct-13-01 Seller nummohead Ex Arthur Houghton collection. CSE 928 (this coin). Obv: Laureate head of Apollo r./ Bull butting r; dotted border. This is a beautiful example of the rare Apollo/bull type of Seleucus I from the Seleucia-Tigris mint. The bull image has been thought to refer to a story in which Seleucus physically restrained a maddened bull at a sacrifice. Seleucus is often associated with bulls. He occasionally appears on posthumous coins and statues with the horns of a bull. Apollo was the divine ancestor of the Seleucid dynasty.
