Gemini III, January 9th, 2007 Lot # 232 - Auction is closed.Estimate: US$1500 / Unsold: Available at opening bid of US$1000 + 15% Buyers Fee SELEUCID KINGDOM. Seleucus I Nicator. Silver tetradrachm SELEUCID KINGDOM. Seleucus I Nicator. (312-281 BC). Silver tetradrachm (17.18 gm). , Uncertain mint in western Asia Minor, 282/1 BC. Head of young Heracles right in lion skin headdress / BASILEWS SELEUKOU, Zeus enthroned left, supporting Nike on extended right hand and resting left on scepter, ÐAÑI monogram in left field, EÑ monogram in right field. Cf. SC 74, pl. 4 (same obverse die). SC Part 2 (forthcoming), Addenda to Part 1, Ad51 (this coin). Well struck. Mint state. The entry at SC 74, based on a single coin which does not show the royal title, restores the title in the exergue, probably incorrectly. Most likely that coin originally had the same anomalous placement of the legend as the present piece, with the royal title placed vertically in the left field. © 2006 Gemini, LLC | Email: info@geminiauction.com ...
