SELEUCID CSE 272 rare Antiochus VIII bronze!! $89.00 Nov-11-01 Seller: nummohead (8) Antiochus VII from the mint of Antioch. Obv. Prow of galley r.; dotted border. Rev. Trident. Date (174 SE=139/9 BC). BASILEWS ANTIOXOY EYERGETOY. CSE 272 (this coin!) ex Houghton collection. Outstanding condition, large bronze of Antiochus VII issued during his first year of rule at Antioch. Wonderful rendition of prow and ram of war galley, with EYE on r., trident reverse, clearly intended to honor the Seleucid navy. The naval imagery is particularly notable because the Romans had banned the Seleucids from maintaining a serviceable navy at the Peace of Apamea of 189 BC.
