     The influence of the Pontic king Mithradates VI is seen in the
     Alexander issues of several coastal towns of the Black Sea
     littoral, such as Odessos, Mesembia and Byzantion. The features
     of Herakles, a standard of the tetradrachms of these cities since
     the third century, have been replaced by a portrait of
     Mithradates.
