     Mithradates the Great, AV stater, (8.51g) Byzantium Mint, c.
     88-86 BC, Head of Alexander the Great right, wearing horn of
     Ammon, decorated with pellets. / BA_I/\E__ /\Y_IMAXOY Athena
     seated left, left elbow resting on shield, holding Nike in
     extended right hand, _I Y monogram above knee, BY on throne,
     trident left in exergue. cf. De Callatay page 142. Superb EF
     detail, but with numerous scattered nicks, chin and neck double
     struck. A very rare mint, which was a negligable component in the
     current hoard made up of coins from Tomis, Kallatis and Istros
     Mints.
