Classical Numismatic Group Mail Bid Sale 84, 5 May 2010 Lot number: 516 Price realized: 310 USD + buyer's fees. BLACK SEA REGION, Uncertain mint. Circa 125-00 BC. Æ (15mm, 2.91 g, 12h). Obv: Jugate heads of the Dioskouroi(?) right Rev: Cornucopiae between pileoi of the Dioskouroi; [...]LIA-DW[...] below. Unpublished. VF, dark green patina with patches of red and brown. Apparently unique. The reverse type was used at a variety of mints in the Black Sea region during the early period of Mithradates VI of Pontos. Typically, the city name appears across the field below the pileoi. However, the only legend that remotely resembles the legend on this coin would be that of Ilion, but not only were these types unused there, the legend always used an O rather than an omega from well before and after the period to which this coin belongs.
