It is also commonly accepted that the Tyre shekels comprise the 30 pieces of silver paid to Judas for his betrayal of Jesus. The later (second) type of Tyre shekels are hypothesized to have been issued in a second mint, possibly Jerusalem, beginning 18/17 BC. Tyre, silver shekel of 24.6 mm, 13.02 grams. Struck in the year 17/16 BC. Obverse: Bust Melqarth to right. Reverse: Eagle, wings closed, stands left, date to left. Reference: cf. BMC 186.
