(17.1g), Amphipolis. Newell 121 (dies CXX/231); cf. AMNG III 
11; SNG Alpha Bank -. Diademed and horned head right / 
 BASILEWS DHMHTRIOU, Poseidon Pelagaios standing left, right 
 foot on rock, holding trident in left hand; monogram to outer 
left, monogram to outer right. Struck circa 289/8 BC, 
attractive well centered example, good metal with light toning 
in obverse hair, slight roughness on far left of reverse 
field, 28.9 mm; Die axis 9.0, EF. 
Estimated Value $1,300 - 1,750. 

Demetrios ingenuity in devising new siege engines gained him 
the title of Poliorcetes. Among his creations were a 
battering ram 180 feet long, requiring 1,000 men to operate 
and a wheeled siege tower named "Helepolis" (or "Taker of 
Cities") which stood 125 feet tall and 60 feet wide, 
weighing 360,000 pounds.
