                 ORC6919 Egypt, tetr. signed by ''K'' gVF

     Egypt, Ptolemy II, 285-246 BC, AR tetradrachm, (14.10g) signed by
     the artist K, Tyre Mint, Diademed head of Ptolemy I right, a
     minute K engraved behind his ear. / Eagle standing left on
     thunderbolt; monogram and club to left. cf. Svoronos 644; SNG
     Cop. 482 (K not mentioned). Good VF, high points unstruck,
     attractive high relief style.

     Ptolemaic tetradrachms of Ptolemy I and II are often seen with a
     tiny D behind the king's ear. This is generally accepted as the
     engraver's signature. Rarer signatures of A, who worked in
     Cyprus, and K who worked in Phoenicia are known.
