[Freeman and Sear] Lot: 32

CRETE. Phaestus. Ca. 320–300 BC. AR stater (11.18 gm).
Heracles, viewed from behind, fighting the Hydra of Lerna;
the hero is nude except for the lion skin draped over his
left arm; he brandishes a club in his right hand and holds
one of the Hydra’s many heads with his left; between his
legs, a crab / ????????, bull prancing right, head turned
facing. Svoronos 59, pl. xxiv, 18 (same obverse die). Very
rare. Numerous old scratches. Toned. Nearly very fine
