Head of Artemis right, hair rolled Mail Bid Home Page around band, bow and quiver over shoulder, the former ornamented with goat’s head, ?—A / ?—I / ?—N in field flanking head / KY—? / ? / NIA—?? / ?, Artemis huntress facing, head left, wearing short tunic and boots, holding long torch in left hand, hound seated right sniffing her right hand, wreath border. Cf. Svoronos 59, pl. x, 1 (same obverse die, ethnic divided differently). Very rare and of fine style. Surface roughness, otherwise nearly extremely fine Ex Behague Collection 137. The types of this tetradrachm offer canonical representations of Artemis huntress, suggesting that by the first century BC Dictynna (Britomartis) was not merely assimilated to Artemis, but completely submerged in her.
