Ancient Coinage of Cilicia, Augusta

Augusta (modern day Campestris) is just over 16 km north of Adana by the river Seyhan. It was founded in AD 20 and named after Livia. The remains were discovered by chance in 1955 but the Turkish government allowed the extensive ruins of Augusta to be destroyed by flooding the area for the Seyhan dam.
