SCARCE AR Litra of Calabria Taras / Dolphin

    OBVERSE:
Scallop shell.

    REVERSE:
Dolphin, star of 8 rays above.

 DESCRIPTION :
              A very scarce coin from about 500 BC. Minted in
              Taras, later known to the Romans as Tarentum, a
              Spartan colony founded in 708 BC. Located on the
            shores of the Mediterranean right on the heel of the
            "boot" of Italy. Grose 756. Weight is .67 grams and
 size is 12mm.
