SNG ANS -; HN Italy -; Extremely rare. As recently as "Historia Nummorum Italy", this issue was often condemned as a modern forger (cf. HN p. 193), because of Becker's forgery of this type (Hill 14), and their extreme rarity. However, a few examples are clearly not from Becker's dies (e.g. Basel 234 and the example in F. Carelli's 1812 catalogue (C. Cavedoni, "Francisci Carellii Numorum Italiae Veteris Tabulas CCII" (1950, pp. iii and 97), described at least 15 years prior to Becker's forgeries. Leu 86, lot 263 was another example.
