Description *** Be sure to check CNG's website for recent additions to our inventory *** [Image] Baktria, Indo-Greek Kings. Heliokles I. Circa 145-130 BC. AR Tetradrachm (16.54 gm). Balkh mint? Diademed bust / Zeus holding thunderbolt and sceptre; monogram. MIG 284a; Bopearachchi Série 1M. VF, nice high-relief portrait. 716350. Heliokles I, son of the great Eukratides, seems to have been the last Greek king of Baktria north of the Hindu Kush. Heliokles might have been the murderer of Eukratides, as mentioned by the historian Justin, but this parricide could also have been Eukratides II or Plato, who appear to have been brothers of Heliokles. In any event, an invasion by steppe nomads called the Yuezhi appears to have overwhelmed the Greco-Bactrian kingdom circa 130 BC, bringing Greek rule to an end. Greek kings continued to rule in northern India for about another century, however. Authenticity unconditionally guaranteed - 14 day return privilege for any reason. CNG accepts for payment: check, money order or credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express). The manner of payment accepted is subject to our qualification of the bidder. CNG's Domestic, Canadian, and International postage rates. Pennsylvania residents please add appropriate sales tax.
