71; BMC Aksum 304. Crowned and draped bust right, holding 
branch and framed by grain ears /draped bust right, wearing 
headcloth, holding branch and framed by grain ears, minor 
weakness of strike, several tiny diebreaks, EF. 
Estimated Value $750 - 900. 

Located in northern Ethiopia and Eritrea, Axum was deeply 
involved in the trade from India to the Mediterranean. It was 
previously thought to have been founded by Semitic-speaking 
Sabaeans who crossed the Red Sea from South Arabia (modern 
Yemen) but many scholars now agree that it 
was an indigenous development.
