AR 16mm (1.49 gm). "AGD King of Axum" (in Ge'ez), crowned facing bust; gilt crown / "The king who Exalts the Savior" (in Ge'ez), cross under arch; gilt center. Munro-Hay 126; BMC Aksum 444. VF. The entire surface of the coin appears to have been silver-enriched. Our knowledge of the later Axumite kingdom is fragmentary; we know little about the absolute chronology of the period, and even the names of the kings are subject to debate. We know king AGD (or ADG) only from his coins- the name is sometimes read as Adegu. Copyright © CNG 2002-2006 Developed by DataArt 2006 From the CNG Online Coin Store, before August, 2007.
