right, eye in profile. / AŘ[E] Owl standing right, head facing, crescent
and olive-sprig behind. Dewing 1634. Toned F, interesting style owl,
lightly scraped area on reverse edge 6:00.

The sculptor Phideas received two drachms a day for his work on the famous
ivory and gold sculpture of Athena in the Parthenon. This coin was accepted
throughout the ancient world. The spending power of this coin was roughly
equal to a thousand dollars.
