                              ARABIA, Uncertain. 2nd century BC. AR Tetradrachm 
                              (16.13 gm, 3h). Degraded head of Herakles right(?) 
                              / Figure seated right, holding sceptre and bird; 
                              reversed swastika in right field, uncertain symbol 
                              or letter to left. Potts -; cf. Gemini 1, lot 258 
                              (reverse). VF, a couple small patches of horn 
                              silver on obverse, softly struck. Unpublished.

                              This, and the previous, coins are part of a small 
                              group of imitative coins that has recently 
                              appeared on the market (see Gemini 1, lots 
                              258-260, for the others). Their obverse and 
                              reverse types appear to copy either Alexandrine or 
                              Seleukid prototypes, but their overall style and 
                              certain attributes defy certain placement into any 
                              of the known series in Arabia, or those farther 
                              east.
