     Aegina. Circa 525-500 BC. AR Stater (12.07 gm). Sea turtle /
     "Mill-Sail" -- eight-part divided punch, four incuse and four
     raised sections. SNG Delepierre 1502. Fine, scratch in obverse
     field. 716476

     The "mill-sail" designation for the reverse type of this archaic
     Aeginetan stater (and other early incuse punch designs) comes
     from the sail pattern of a windmill. The sails were made from
     cloth at first and later, especially on the American plains, they
     were made from galvanized tin but still retained the same shape
     and design as their European ancestors.
