Celticized male or female head right, "ribbon" tattoo with zigzag ornament running from chin to cheekbone, two volutes beneath neck truncation / Winged horse standing left, with nose ending in proboscis and wing rendered as floating veil, star behind, branch below, volutes in exergue. Unusually broad-flanned, preserving details of the design not noted in the literature. Good very fine Attributed to the Bellovaci by Muret and Chabouillet in the BN catalogue (1889), it was questioned on stylistic grounds by Blanchet. Scheers pointed out that the lack of provenances leaves us without solid evidence for the issuing tribe, but she cites the rich alloy as evidence for a second-century date.
