  Crowned facing bust of Theodosius / Crowned facing busts of Maurice and Constantia
  flanking cross, crosses at sides. DOC I 307; MIB II 60; SB 615. Toned good VF,
  somewhat rough, chipped flan. Rare. Estimate $200.

  Traditionally, the rare coinage of Theodosius has been dated to 602, 
in the chaotic times after the execution of Maurice and before it was 
learned that his son had died with him. However, it is likely that most 
of Theodosius' coinage was struck around the time of his elevation to 
co-ruler in 590. Theodosius was only a child at the time, having been 
born earlier in his father's reign, the first prince "born to the
  purple" in a century.
