+EMMA—NOVHË, bust of Christ Emmanuel, bearded, facing; with 
nimbus cruciger with design of five dots in each limb of 
cross; wears chiton and himation; right hand half-raised 
before right shoulder in benediction; left holds book of the 
Gospels with jeweled 
cover; in field left and right, IC and XC; border of dots / +QEODWRA AVG—OV—CTA H ÄOVË, bust of Theodora, facing; wears crown with 
pendants and three triangular projections, chiton with high jeweled 
collar, divitision, circular shoulder-piece and loros; right holds 
scepter with trefoil top; left hand is half lifted before chest in 
supplication; border of dots. Zacos, plate 22, 82a. Glossy 
undisturbed beige and tan patina. Wonderful portrait of the empress. 
Extremely fine.
