Browsing Byzantine Coinage of John I

John I (969-976 AD) put down an attack on Constantinople by the Russian price Svjatoslav and extended his predecessor's conquests as far as Palestine, extending Byzantine power in the Near East to its greatest since the early 7th century. John died of typhoid and was succeeded by the sons of the empress Theophano who had been banished for her implication in the murder of Nicephorus.
