Browsing Byzantine Coinage of Basil II


976-1025 AD. Basil devoted his reign to fighting Bulgarians, Fatimids, Georgians and the western principalities. At the battle of Kleidon in 1014 he acquired the name Bulgar-Slayer (Bulgaroktonos) when, in the name of God (!), he captured and blinded 14,000 Bulgarians.
