Sale 31: The Pre-Long Beach Auction May 30 - June 1, 2005
             

             
            Lot 2220Great Britain. 5 Guineas, 1688. S.3397; Fr-292. James II, 
            1685-1688. First laureate bust left. Reverse: Cross of four crowned 
            shields with sceptre between each shield. All James II 5 Guineas are 
            rare in high grade. They were the largest gold coins of the era and 
            produced in relatively small quantities - nevertheless they 
            circulated widely during James's short three year reign and beyond. 
            Most available specimens are worn, damaged or mounted. This 
            virtually uncirculated specimen is indeed special. Conservatively 
            graded at AU-58. NGC graded AU-58. 
            Estimated Value $12,500-15,000.
