The coin is toned gray, with a portraiton broken, off, and a slight bend and crack of part of the remaining coin. Legends are about 1/3 full. The portrait is partially clear, with some detail. The shield is fairly nice. Charles I attemepted to be an absolute monarch and rule without Parliament. However, civil war broke out, the forces of the King lost, and Charles was beheaded.
