                                Description

England, Edward I, 1272-1307, AR Penny (16x17mm), F+, London mint.
Spink/Seaby 1408, Class 9b. Obv. + EDW R ANGL DNS HYB, crowned and draped
bust facing, star on breast. Rev. CIVITAS LONDON, long cross with three
pellets in each angle. The coin is toned gray, with a touch of porosity on
the obverse, moreso on the reverse. Legends are partially weak, and some
letters are partially off the flan, but most letters are at least partially
visible. The portrait is mostly clear, with decent detail, but the star is
worn. Edward I was the English king portrayed in the movie "Braveheart." He
had great military success in Wales, but, as the movie shows, he did not
duplicate that success in Scotland.
