The Moneyer, Decimus Junius Brutus, used both his adoptive family name (Albinus) on his coinage, while proclaiming his lineage (Bruti filius). He served Caesar in Gaul, and in 49 B.C., the year prior to the issue of this coin, commanded Caesar's fleet at Massilia.

This Brutus was the lesser known of the two Bruti that took part in Julius Caesar's assassination.
