T Flavius Vespasianus was a general under the emperor Claudius, leading the invasion of Britain, and under Nero, commanding the troops sent to subdue Judaea in the First Jewish War. He was proclaimed emperor by this troops in 69 AD, defeated Vitellius in 70, and proved to be a very capable emperor, reversing much of the decline caused by Nero and the Civil Wars of 69 AD. He died of natural causes in 79 AD.
